Your radiotherapy experience
Your care team
At Cancer Partners UK everything revolves around you, the patient. You are likely to spend quite some time with us during your treatment, and we want you to feel as comfortable and as relaxed as possible while you are here. We also want you to get the best treatment and care available. Your care team is here to provide just that. They are experts in their fields at the forefront of radiotherapy technology. You will get to know them well as you will see the same specialists and supporting team throughout your treatment.
This expert-led multi-disciplinary team (MDT) includes the following people:
Consultant oncologist
A consultant oncologist is a cancer specialist. They will be in charge of your care plan at Cancer Partners UK. You may see your oncologist before, during and after your course of radiotherapy. They will plan your treatment with you, and will review its progress regularly together with you and the rest of your care team.
Therapy radiographers
Radiographers are experts in the delivery of radiotherapy. They work with your oncologist and physicists to plan your treatment and will be there at each of your treatment sessions to deliver the radiotherapy. They will help you prepare for the session, make sure you are in the right position and operate the radiotherapy equipment.
Your radiographers are the people you will see most during your treatment. At Cancer Partners UK you will see the same radiographers throughout your course of treatment, so you will get to know them well. They can give help and advice on all aspects of your care, and will be there to discuss any concerns or anxieties you may have.
Physicists
Physicists are experts in radiation. They ensure the radiotherapy equipment is working properly and carry out regular safety checks. They also work with your oncologist and radiographers to plan your treatment.
Dosimetrists
Dosimetrists use complex technology to calculate correct doses of radiotherapy during the CT planning and dosimetry stage of your care plan. They work together with your oncologist within the radiotherapy physics team, to plan your radiotherapy treatment.
Centre administrators
Cancer Partners UK’s administrative staff are on hand to help organise appointments, and to provide further information about the centre, support groups and much more. The centre administrators will help coordinate your payments and liase with your insurance company. Please feel free to ask them any questions - if they are not able to answer them, they will know someone who can.
As we work in partnership with private hospital groups you will also have access to:
Specialist cancer nurses
Also called clinical nurse specialists, your specialist cancer nurses will have expert knowledge about your type of cancer. They can be a good source of support and information for you during your treatment.
Consultant dietitians
A dietitian will be able to give advice if you have problems eating and drinking because of your radiotherapy treatment.
Counsellors
If you feel that speaking to a counsellor would be helpful, ask the staff looking after you to arrange an appointment.
