New chief executive announced

Cancer Partners UK has appointed Steve Bird as chief executive. This follows Rupert Cockcroft, founder and previous chief executive, stepping down from the role following a period of ill health.

Steve joined Cancer Partners UK as chief operating officer in 2008, and is well placed to take on the CEO role. He has over 15 years' experience in senior management roles within the healthcare sector including operations director for BUPA Wellness, which operated a national network of healthcare services for companies and individuals. He has also held positions as hospital director at three BUPA hospitals and executive director at BMI Healthcare's flagship Alexandra Hospital.

Steve said: "Without Rupert's vision and leadership, Cancer Partners UK would not exist and I'm proud to have the opportunity to take over as chief executive. I know that everyone at Cancer Partners UK is grateful to Rupert for taking the company to where it is today and we all wish him every success in the future.

"We're focussed on forging ahead with the roll out of our proven model of outstanding ambulatory cancer care to new parts of the country, enabling more patients to benefit from the highly targeted treatments that we offer. I look forward with confidence to steering Cancer Partners UK in the years ahead."

Rupert Cockcroft said: "Through years of hard work and dedication, we've gone from a concept to a network of outstanding cancer centres, with exciting plans to accelerate the company's development over the coming years. I am very proud to have led the amazing Cancer Partners UK team in creating an extraordinary company that has already made a real difference to cancer care in the UK. I am looking forward to working on a number of exciting opportunities in the healthcare industry in the future."
