Wig clinic launched in Nottingham

Cancer Partners UK’s Nottingham Centre has joined forces with one of the country’s leading wig suppliers, to launch a weekly wig clinic for patients.
Trendco has been providing a successful wig service for almost fifty years, and experienced stylists from the Nottingham salon will be hosting the weekly wig clinics at The Park Cancer Centre. The clinics will give patients the opportunity to see a selection of wigs they as well as alternative headwear, in a friendly relaxed environment.
Preparations begin for charity Commando Challenge

A 21-strong team from across Cancer Partners UK’s centres and head office have signed up to take part in the Commando Challenge - a 12-hour, 46.5km endurance extravaganza!
The event will comprise canoeing 13km across Ullswater and walking 10km up Striding Edge to the summit of Helellyn the third highest peak in England, before cycling 20km across rough terrain to Derwent Water where the intrepid team will then canoe 3.5km to Keswick and the finishing line.

Cancer Partners UK’s Elstree team had a surprise when one patient bought in some Comic Relief red noses which they all donned during his treatment session.
Alan Conybeare had been attending the Elstree Cancer Centre for prostate cancer treatment, and felt the scary faces printed onto the comical red noses reflected his feelings about his radiotherapy treatment.
Hertfordshire breast cancer charity launch

Cancer Partners UK was delighted to join new local breast cancer charity, Cura, at their Launch Ball, where a fantastic £16,000 was raised.
The charity is based at BMI Bishops Wood Hospital in Northwood, and will support patients from both the NHS and private sector. It was set up by former Macmillan Breast Care nurse, Hilary Rickwood, consultant breast surgeon, Mr Ekambaram Babu, consultant oncologist, Dr Nihal Shah and consultant cellular pathologist, Dr Joseph El-Jabbour in a bid to help local women being treated for breast cancer.
Patients return to launch Nottingham centre

The Park Cancer Centre in Nottingham has been officially launched with a little help from some patients who were among the first to be treated there.
The Park Cancer Centre was developed as a joint venture by BMI The Park Hospital and Cancer Partners UK, providing fast access to integrated cancer treatments including chemotherapy and advanced radiotherapy. Based in the grounds of BMI The Park Hospital, the centre forms the focal point of care for cancer patients and, with the support of the main hospital, caters for all patients’ needs including diagnostic procedures and scans, as well as access to specialist surgeons.
Medical insurance advisers gain insight

Fourteen representatives from some of the country's leading insurance companies attended a Cancer Partners UK event in order to better understand the treatment pathway for patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
The day-long event, entitled 'Breast Cancer - The Patient Journey', included presentations by consultant breast surgeon, Mr Avi Agrawal, and consultant clinical oncologist, Dr Anne Suovuori.
Free talk: Healthy living after cancer

People from across Hertfordshire are being invited to a free talk at The Elstree Cancer Centre, which will focus on healthy living after cancer.
Better awareness and improved treatments have resulted in the UK having over two million cancer survivors, and has led Cancer Partners UK to organise the evening event on Wednesday, 27 February 2013.

Dr Adi Bhatnagar’s patient Richard Bullard who during November was receiving radiotherapy for prostate cancer at our centre in Southampton, used his experience to good cause by jumping on the Movember bandwagon and raising a terrific £925 for the cause.

Elstree Cancer Centre celebrated the end of Movember with a shave-off event, where it was announced the team had raised almost £5,000 for prostate and testicular cancer charities.
Work starts on Guildford cancer centre

Building work has started on Cancer Partners UK’s sixth centre, which is being developed as part of a new integrated cancer centre at BMI Mount Alvernia Hospital in Guildford.
The oncology centre is a joint initiative between Cancer Partners UK and BMI Healthcare. It will open next year to provide patients with fast access to the best possible cancer care including advanced radiotherapy treatments such as IMRT (intensity modulated radiotherapy) and daily IGRT (image guided radiotherapy). These have been shown to treat cancer tumours with greater accuracy and fewer side effects than conventional radiotherapy.
